Are you unsure of the best time to water your lawn, or perhaps how long to water it for? We also provide a recommendation on the best type of sprinkler to use.
1. in the Morning
The air is cooler, and typically there is less wind to blow the water away from where it's supposed to go. In the afternoon, the water evaporates too quickly in the heat, and at night it may stay on the blades too long causing lawn disease. Anytime before 10 am is the optimal time.
2. Soak to 6 inches
You will need to water long enough in order for the soil to be soaked at least 6 inches deep. Since each lawn has different soil, the length of watering can vary. After 15 minutes of watering, take a shovel and unearth a patch of your lawn to see how far the moisture has seeped down into the lawn. Time how long it takes to soak the 6 inches then from there you will know how long to water your lawn the next time.
3. USe Pulsating Sprinklers
Pulsating sprinklers are the better option for an established lawn over oscillating ones. Oscillating sprinklers shoot water vertically, where pulsating sprinklers shoots water horizontally at high pressure where they are less likely to be affected by wind and evaporation.
